How to Soften Your Butter Quickly

In a rush? Forgot to take the butter out of the freezer but need to soften your butter quickly? Here are ways to save you time:

Option 1 - Cut the butter into cubes

Slowly and carefully cut the butter into cubes. Butter softens faster in smaller pieces.

We recommend doing this step early since it will take around 15 minutes or so to soften.

Option 2 - Place the butter under a hot bowl

Butter trapped under a pit of heat will quickly soften your butter. It can be easily made in your kitchen by warming up a glass/ceramic bowl.

Follow these steps to create a pit of heat:

  1. Boil some water and pour it into a glass/ceramic bowl that your butter could fit under.

  2. Wait a few minutes for the glass or ceramic to heat up from the hot water and then dispose the water.

  3. As the bowl steams, quickly flip it and place it directly over your butter, which should soften in 3-5 minutes.

If your butter didn’t soften after 3-5 minutes, continue to soften it under the pit of heat. If the bowl is not hot anymore, boil more water and repeat the process above.

Option 3 - Use your microwave

If you are really in a hurry and have no time for any of these steps, then a microwave would be your best option. However, keep in mind that using your microwave can be inconsistent since every microwave is different.

If you want to try softening butter in your microwave, use small time increments in low power so that you don’t melt it.

Soft Butter!

These hacks should save you some time when softening your butter, especially if you forgot to transfer your butter from your freezer to your fridge. Which one of these tips will you try out?
