How to Pound Chicken (and its benefits)
By using a meat mallet or a rolling pin, you can transform tough chicken breasts into tender and juicy delights. Watch as we demonstrate the proper technique to flatten the chicken, creating an even thickness that ensures even cooking and maximum tenderness. There are many uses for pounded chicken, including making Chicken Marsala with Mushrooms!
Instructions
Place the chicken breast on a clean cutting board or a sturdy surface.
Put the chicken breast in a resealable bag and remove any air inside. As an alternative, you can also cover the chicken with a sheet of plastic wrap or parchment paper. Either method will prevent the meat from sticking to the mallet and help maintain hygiene.
Gently pound the chicken breast using the flat side of a meat mallet or a rolling pin. Start from the thickest part of the breast and work your way outwards towards the edges. Use even and controlled force to avoid tearing or breaking the meat.
Continue pounding until the chicken breast reaches an even thickness of about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. This will ensure that the chicken cooks evenly and becomes tender.
Flip the chicken breast and repeat the pounding process on the other side until it achieves an even thickness.
Notes
If the plastic wrap or parchment paper tears during the process, replace it with a fresh one to maintain cleanliness.
Remember to wash your hands and sanitize the cutting board and utensils after handling raw chicken to maintain food safety standards.
With these steps, you'll be able to transform tough chicken breasts into tender and succulent pieces, enhancing both the texture and flavor of your dishes.
